Maya Yoga

Kim Johnson

My love of yoga began in 1991 in KC where I practiced vinyasa style yoga until I discovered Ashtanga in 2009 here at Maya Yoga which changed everything! I met Tim Miller during his workshop at Maya and was lucky enough to complete Tim’s teacher trainings for both primary and intermediate series in 2012.  I continued to return to Encinitas to practice with Tim, often with my son and husband in tow (along for the surfing to be honest). Over time opportunities unfolded for me to deepen my teaching education and practice with Rolf and Marci Naujokat in Goa, India by assisting them in their daily Mysore shala with about 90 students a morning and at three of their 30 day Yoga Intensives for months of each year from  2012 to 2017.  This is how I came to receive a direct transmission of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Method of primary & intermediate series protocol for asana, adjustments, and pranayama.
My teachers Tim Miller and Rolf Naujokat received the Ashtanga Vinyasa Method complete transmission from Patthabi Jois in Mysore, India. Both my teachers are now retired.

While being a guest teacher in NY and other countries was part of my path I’m really excited to be grounded at Maya Yoga now.  I view my Ashtanga experience and education like an extension cord;  a connection I offer to a anyone interested in a direct flow of information of yogic knowledge, practices, and Ashtanga, so we may continually discover the true purpose of all yoga, to know freedom.
